"We inspire mad youths to become grad youths", this is our primary mission. YRUMAD (Youth Respects Universal Martial Arts Discipline) is a Nonprofit 501 (c) (3) public benefit corporation. Our purpose is to provide quality martial arts instruction and training for the underprivileged population within reach of the Greater Los Angeles area. The YRUMAD focus is on the dynamic of discipline, which requires that one steps outside of their comfort zone, in an effort to develop in-depth knowledge and skill sets.We pride ourselves on cultivating and maintaining a culture of respect, courtesy, dedication and achievement. Our curriculum focuses on the sciences of martial arts history, martial arts philosophy, kinesiology, wellness and physical fitness. Within the structure of our program exists a profound emphasis on academics, career guidance, counseling and mentoring. We are positioned to provide invaluable information and resources designed to place our young scholars on the road to success. The YRUMAD concept also incorporates a food bank, in place to provide much needed nutrition for families of students in need and the community at large. The organizations mission is one of empowerment, instilling in its trainees the tools needed to excel in life, by rising to a competent level of knowledge, comprehension and independence. YRUMAD collaborates with a variety of corporations, foundations, nonprofits, city, state and federal entities in an effort to improve the quality of life for youths in dire need of our services and resources. YRUMAD is positioned to offer martial arts instruction for organizations desirous of supplementing their existing programs with the addition of our course of studies. YRUMAD is humbly seeking support and donations as we strive towards building a legacy of excellence.
A martial artist is one who is well discipline, he or she listens and thinks at all times, they utilize their mental , physical and spiritual abilities to get the maximum results out of minimum action. They posses speed, form , techniques, power and gracefulnes.
Professor Frank DeGourville has been teaching martial arts since 1978, well versed in Jujitsu, Kenpo and Tae-Kwondo. He is a 9th Degree Black Belt, world renowned, USA Hall of Fame and international competitor.
A product of South Los Angeles (a neighborhood known as Watts), Grandmaster Sammie Sherman is the Chief Operations Officer for YRUMAD.In martial arts circles this administrator is known as Xuan Wu (the dark warrior / the mysterious warrior) and chooses to maintain a low profile. He is the former Chairman of the Board of the All Black Belt Congress and former Vice Chair of the Coalition of Brothers & Sisters Unlimited (under OG Bobby Lavender) and is also the U.S. Representative for a variety of International Martial Arts Organizations.
Sensei Myrna Young currently a 4th Degree Black Belt, born in Belize Central America and grew up in South Central Los Angeles. After graduating from Canoga Park High school Sensei Young continued her education and attended West Los Angeles College and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree, with emphasis in computer science and data entry. Sensei Young also graduated from Pepperdine University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Additionally with an interest for health and wellness, she decided to attend the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and graduated with a certificate as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. Sensei Young has been involved in training and teaching martial arts under Professor Frank DeGourville for over 15 years.
PROFESSOR FRANK DEGOURVILLE –
Professor Frank DeGourville, a 9thDegree Black Belt, a retired LAPD Line Reserve Officer for 23 years protecting and servicing the city of Los Angeles as well as teaching martial arts in the City of Los Angeles for 40 years, since 1978.
Professor has continuously trained well over 30,000 students in the martial arts within our community ranging from Los Angeles Unified elementary schools, high schools, Private Charter Schools, (Accelerated Charter High School, the first Charter School in Los Angeles for 11 years), YMCA’s, YWMCA, the DOTS Schools, the Challengers Boys and Girls Club and currently at Green Meadows Recreational Center.
Sijo Steve Muhammad recently inducted Professor DeGourvile into the highest achievement as An Ancient Warrior Inductee. He has also been inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of fame in 2005, receiving his Ph.D., Ma.D.Sc as well as being inducted into the world Martial Arts Association on the East Coast.
Professor has been given opportunities to travel across the United States competing and becoming a true champion in the martial Arts Arena as well as different countries conducting workshops to children and adults. While overseas, he visited the Youth Prison Systems encouraging the youths to be positive.
Currently, he is teaching Leadership Classes at LA University under the guidance of Dr. Mike Miller in the city of Compton along with his counter partner, Former Sherriff Lee Baca to upcoming NBA basketball athletes from the inner city.
Professor’s mentors consist Sijo Steve Muhammad and Grandmaster Bob Wall.
His program is an accelerated program and an institute for higher learning. He encourages all his students to train hard and become leaders by examples. Loyalty, dedication, integrity, commitment and respect are instilled in every student that comes through our program. Professor will continue to pass on his knowledge in a positive way, the only way he knows – Hard Work.

Grandmaster Sherman is a armed forces veteran, a former protective agent, as well as a Journeyman Millwright. This consummate martial artist and mentor has come to understand that the way to get things done is not to mind who gets credit for doing them. In the area of governance this gentleman prefers to remain in the shadows, not seeking to be acknowledged for his effectiveness within the organization. Research and development are at the forefront of his agenda, with a focus on the day to day operations of this entity known as YRUMAD. Grandmaster is an innovative martial artist, who was exposed to these disciplines at a very early age and is now in a positioned to give back to the community he so dearly loves. A progressive and abstract thinker who always seeks to stay ahead of the curve. Sammie endeavors to benefit from the intellect, insight, intuition, initiative and inertia of like minded individuals, who seek positive change. He excels at positioning people with effective skill sets in an ideal position and equipping them with the resources required to succeed at a given task. This is the business philosophy Grandmaster adheres to, in his efforts to construct a highly efficient and functional organizational infrastructure. The optimal functioning of YRUMAD, its mission and the needs of the community at large are amongst Grandmaster Sammie Sherman's top priorities.

Myrna Young worked for over 10 years as a registered Financial Advisor with Prudential, Morgan Stanley and LPL Financial, holding NASD Series 7, 33, 66 and California Life and Health Insurance License. Ms. Young currently works in accounting in Culver City, CA for a Business Management firm for the past 4 years.
Ms. Young is a 2nd degree black belt (Sensei) and has been training under the guidance of Professor Frank DeGourville (Frank Enterprise Karate Studios, FEKS) for the past 10 plus years. Currently Ms. Young is mentoring and training young inner city youths at the Rampart Police Department Pal program and Green Meadows facilities with Professor Frank Degourville. Myrna Young has committed to over 10,000 volunteer hours in the inner city communities, from Los Angeles to Compton and East Los Angeles including volunteering at the Children Hospital of Los Angeles. Ms. Young was also inducted into the USA Martial Arts “Hall of Fame” in 2012 and has received many other certificates and accolades from many other martial arts organizations.
Myrna Young is an entrepreneur, business owner and enjoys working and volunteering in health, wellness and fitness. While volunteering and working in the community, Ms Young attended community functions and spoke with a few business owners and leaders in the community and the message is very clear in changing and reforming our youths and we must continue to make a different in each and every one of their lives. Working and mentoring inner city youths is not only a commitment for Ms Young, but a passion in making a difference in inspiring youths to become bigger and better citizens in society. The program under FEKS not only teaches martial arts training but also instills the core elements of Discipline, Respect, Honesty, Integrity and Loyalty.
Ms Young has recently partner with Professor DeGourville and Grandmaster Sam Sherman in developing YRUMAD, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which will focus on diverse set of youth programs in assisting each child in transitioning smoothly into society from the foster care homes and the juvenile system. Our mission is very clear, inspiring MAD youths to become GRAD youths one child at a time.
